Oklahoma was derived from two Choctaw Indian words: okla meaning people and humma meaning red. Culturally, Oklahoma is a diverse state. Once the land of Cowboys and Indians, the state has kept detailed documentation of its cultural history in museums such as the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
